On February 6 (Beijing time), Wu Yibing, a native of Hangzhou, was defeated by Kovacevich from the host country and failed to claim his fifth title at Cleveland Men's Singles Final of ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour.

As No. 2 seed of the tour, Wu Yibing has every opportunity to win the title. In the semi-final, Wu Yibing prevailed over his opponent, one of the top players at Australian Open Tennis, throughout the tour with zero double fault, and he was especially prominent in scoring the first and second serves. He won the first set in the final. Although he failed to claim the title, he gained 50 points in this leg of the match.

Wu Yibing ascended to No. 97 in the latest world rankings for men's singles, cracking the world’s top 100 for the first time in his career. This was undoubtedly a major breakthrough for him personally and for China as well. Wu built on his rapid ascent to move up the rankings, from beyond 1,700 last year to top 97 this year, making him the second male player in Chinese mainland to make his way into the world’s top 100.
