Women have never ceased the pursuit of beauty since the ancient times. The recent live streaming of Song-style makeup at the witness of a foreign friend named Tasia, had attracted about 70,000 audiences. 

The live streaming started from Beautiful Ladies Wearing Fine Makeup, a painting of the Song Dynasty, to introduce ladies’ makeup and the makeup culture of the Song Dynasty.

Ladies in the Song Dynasty cherished fresh and elegant makeup featured by three white spots and decorative pearls. Usually, the forehead, chin and nose were dabbed with white powder, similar to current highlighted spots, and then pearls were stuck on the face to embellish and verify the shape of the face. During the live streaming, Chen Lingjia, a national intermediate dresser, demonstrated how to make up in person. According to Chen, people in the Song Dynasty were so wise as to use gelatin made of cooked fish bones to stick the pearls. They merely had to breathe out a breath to put on the pearls and remove them by melting the gelatin with hot water. 

The wonderful activity presented the life style and aesthetics of people in the Song Dynasty. By inviting foreign friends and distinguished guests for the collaborative experience, the activity contributed to Hangzhou’s efforts in building the city’s cultural IP and expanding its international influences.
