Loosened travel restrictions between the Chinese mainland and Macao have made the special administrative region more attractive to domestic tourists, Hangzhou Daily reported.
Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, has been the third largest source of tourists to Macao in the past month, according to statistics released by the travel portal Quna'er.
Searches for roundtrip flights to Macao have also increased by 173 percent over last month, thanks to the Central government's loosened restrictions on digital visas and group tours from Shanghai and the provinces of Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Fujian.
As domestic airlines have implemented a new schedule for the winter-spring season starting Oct 30, the prices for roundtrips to Macao are expected to decreased by about 27 percent from September, and flights from some big cities to Macao are even charging just 700 yuan ($96.18) in November.
Moreover, with searches for Macao hotels rising by about 135 percent over last month, Air Macau has joined with local hotels to offer discounts such as buying one flight ticket and getting one free and booking two-night hotels for the price of one night.
In addition to Hangzhou, residents of Shanghai, Beijing, Xiamen, Chengdu, Nanjing, Qingdao, Chongqing, Changzhou and Wenzhou are also traveling to Macao in large numbers.
