With the enchanting scenery of Qiantang River and the Song culture of the Southern Song Imperial Street, Hangzhou is warm and attractive at night, having the unique charm. The "ink and colour" night scene of Hangzhou is paved with "green" background. Over the past ten years, Hangzhou Urban Management Bureau has closely focused on the deployment of the CPC Central Committee, as well as the requirements of the CPC Provincial and Municipal Committees, to firmly promote the green and low-carbon pioneering reform in Hangzhou so that the urban development displays "beauty" and "green".

During the National Day Holiday that just passed, where water waves were integrated with light and shadow, the light show in Hangzhou at night brought a surprise to citizens and tourists, which was fascinating. There is a set of "zero-carbon" passwords behind the light show. Hangzhou has explored and built the first green light show in China by balancing the energy generated by PV and the energy consumed by the light show, and using the energy-saving lamps, new energy technologies (such as PV + energy storage) and intelligent control system.

The relevant person in charge said that, through the technical transformation, they would integrate the daytime PV-generated "green electricity" into the grid system to give a priority to regional load and connect the remaining electricity to the power grid. At night, the grid supplies the power to light up the urban light show, to realize the equivalent replacement of daytime power generation and nighttime power consumption, and better embody the skyline landscape of key nodes along Qianjiang New City on the basis of energy conservation and environmental protection. In the lighting design of blocks, streets and lanes around the canal, the soft and uniform light illumination is combined with the use of energy-saving sources to redefine the energy-saving lighting space.

In addition, the solar smart lighting pole is another innovative practice of energy-saving lighting in Hangzhou. The smart lighting pole is based on the traditional lighting functions, and is the smart municipal infrastructure with an integration of street lighting control system, Wi-Fi coverage, video surveillance & management and other functions, to make the urban governance more intelligent.

At present, the East and West Squares of Hangzhoudong Railway Station have been laid with 140 sets of solar smart street lighting poles. They have combined the functions of 5G micro base station interface, video surveillance, LED lighting, environmental meteorological monitoring, broadcasting system and mobile phone charging service to achieve all-in-one purpose and provide more considerate service experience for passengers and citizens.

In recent years, Hangzhou has completed the energy-saving reconstruction of 255,000 street lamps, achieving significant environmental, economic and social benefits. The renovated roads in the main urban areas are brightened by more than 40%, the power saving rate of street lamps reaches 47.2%, and the electricity charge is reduced by about 30.80 million yuan every year.

Nowadays, Hangzhou Smart Lighting Management Platform has become the "smart brain" for urban lighting to build the new innovative lighting management way of making decisions and carrying out management based on data. Through the monitoring of "big data" including geography and weather, it realizes the automatic fine adjustment on starting and closing time of street lamps, and considers the energy conservation under the premise of ensuring the daily lighting needs of citizens.
