At 3:00 am on June 27, the No. 8 cooling tower of Hangzhou Banshan Power Station became history with a bang.

The tower, at a height of 150 meters, was the tallest cooling tower ever to be brought down. All five tall cooling towers on the north side of Hangzhou have now been demolished. They stood along Kangqiao Road for nearly 40 years.
