Hangzhou Subway Group held a publicity activity on Dec 2 to get passengers to don front-carrying bags in a bid to create more room and avoid crowding, according to officials in Hangzhou, capital city of East China's Zhejiang province.

Subway employees in uniform wore front-carrying bags and reminded passengers to follow the practice at various subway stations in Hangzhou.

Under the promotion, passengers who behaved considerately were handed gifts by subway staff.

Passengers can also show their support for the initiative by contacting the official account of the Hangzhou Subway Group on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, to post their fun photos of front-carrying bags and by using hashtag "front-carry bags" to define the post.

Some lucky people will receive custom-made subway tickets from the Hangzhou Subway Group, officials added.
