People aged 70 and above now can apply for driving licenses to small vehicles, says the new national regulation issued last week.

They are required to demonstrate an additional tese on memory, judgment and responsiveness for approval before taking the test, and deliver annual physical check-ups after getting the license.

As of Monday, twelve seniors have completed the application in Hangzhou, and eight of them have been approved competent in driving a car.

Aged 74, Mr. Wu, a local senior, is encouraged to learn driving by his wife who got her license just three years ago. “We enjoyed our retirement by taking road trips, but it has been difficult to make long hours driving.”says Wu, “I am trilled to know that I am qualified to take the test, and will be soon to take turns in driving with my wife.”
