"In the past, my family was worried about me being alone in China. Now, it's my turn to do something for them." "Saving others is also saving ourselves." "It is an honor to do something valuable for the medical staff," said an Indonesian girl who has been alone in Beijing for 6 years, a 40-year-old father in Ukraine and a middle-aged man in Holland. They have never known each other, but now they share a common identity: the volunteer multilingual translator of the manual entitled "Handbook of COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment".

In the past week, the Global MediXchange for Combating COVID-19 (GMCC), jointly set up by Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation, released a handbook for COVID-19 prevention that had been translated into 12 languages. Medical workers from all over the world can download the handbook free of charge. Five language versions of the manuals were translated by volunteer translators from various countries free of charge.

According to statistics, at present, nearly 100 volunteers are translating on Alibaba Translation Crowdsource Platform alone. In addition, the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University organized four professional translation companies to translate the handbook.

Up to now, the handbook has been translated into Italian, Spanish, French, Japanese, German, Indonesian, Persian, Turkish, Serbian, Dutch, Thai and Russian on GMCC, of which the last five versions were all translated voluntarily by netizens from various countries. The Korean and Portuguese versions will be released on GMCC soon.

It is understood that in order to improve the efficiency of translation, Alibaba DAMO Academy's intelligent man-machine collaboration platform has been fully open to provide technical support for the related work. The manual translated by volunteers was then released online after being proofread by medical professionals in hospitals like the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University. Since the handbook was released on March 18, users in 224 countries and regions have browsed or downloaded it.
