Classical ballet The Nutcracker will stage in Hangzhou in December.
The Nutcracker is an 1892 two-act ballet, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The libretto is adapted from E. T. A. Hoffmann's story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King."
Although the original production was not a success, the 20-minute suite that Tchaikovsky extracted from the ballet was. However, the complete Nutcracker has enjoyed enormous popularity since the late 1960s and is now performed by countless ballet companies. Tchaikovsky's score has become one of his most famous compositions.
The ballet will be performed by the Kiev Ballet. Kiev Ballet is a leading ballet company based in the city of Kiev, Ukraine. Kiev Ballet, also known as the National Ballet of Ukraine, performs works of classical ballet and tours internationally. It currently has 24 ballets in its repertory, one of the largest in the world, and has had many notable dancers among its members.
