The 2019 Internet Law Conference opened in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, on Nov 23.

A number of Chinese and foreign experts in internet law studies gathered at the event to discuss how laws empower digital economy and internet security.

Ye Min, deputy Party secretary of Zhejiang University, said that the scholars focused on how to ensure the sound development of digital economy through effective laws.

"We need to work together to guarantee data security, safeguard competition and protect intellectual property rights," he added.

Jia Yu, chief procurator of the People's Procuratorate of Zhejiang Province, said that many laws and case-handling procedures are outdated in the age of digital economy.

He noted that legal practitioners and entrepreneurs need to work together to address the challenges.

"It is important to reshape governance and legal systems and better adapt them to the age of digital economy," said Shao Xiaofeng, Party secretary of Alibaba Group, at the conference.

He called for joint efforts from the government, academic circles, industries and enterprises, and consumers to find the best solutions.

The two-day conference was sponsored by Zhejiang University and the People's Procuratorate of Zhejiang Province, and was hosted by the Law Committee of the Zhejiang People's Congress, the Zhejiang Provincial Court and the Zhejiang Public Security Department.
