As the scroll was unfolded, the legendary painting from the Yuan Dynasty Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains came alive. In the undulating mountains, lush trees and on the misty rivers and waterside pavilions, travelers, woodmen, fishermen and scholars recited poems to praise the heavenly landscape along the Fuchun River in Hangzhou's Tonglu county.

This was a show staged on the 2022 Spring Festival Gala that spellbound viewers globally. The show "Jiangnan Memories", adopted computer graphics and other special production means, and incorporated poetry, calligraphy, painting and dance performances to present what it was like in Jiangnan area (south of the Yangtze River) in the ancient times.

Tonglu has been referred to as the typical Jiangnan landscape. It is where scholars seek escape while villagers catch fresh fish to live by. For generations, the beautiful view has never failed those scholars that, just between the Northern and Southern dynasties and the Qing Dynasty, over 1,900 poets left over 7,400 poems to adore the place.

"Along the Qiantang River, all the way to Tonglu, no paintings can manifest its natural beauty," exclaimed Wei Zhuang, a poet from the Tang Dynasty.

In the years to come, Tonglu will be rolling out tourist routes recommended by ancient scholars in their poems.
