SR Resources Recycle Company, which was co-founded by more than 3,000 students at Dayulu Primary School in Hangzhou, has generated over 2,000 yuan ($306) in revenue over the past year by recycling waste paper and bottles.

The students later bought saplings using the revenue and planted them in the countryside.

The "S" and "R" in the company name stands for "students" and "resource". By setting up the company, these students hope to develop a stronger awareness of waste classification among more people and protect the environment.

The company has appointed a chairman of board, a project manager, and a chief financial officer. Students actively involved in the waste-classification initiative will be awarded at the end of each semester.

The company has been running for two years. In the first year, the company used the revenue to buy hyacinth seeds as gifts for all shareholders. This year, the founders decided to use the money to buy trees.

The founding of SR is of significance for students to develop habits of classifying waste and preserving the environment, said Chen Weiquan, president of Dayulu Primary School.
