Wang Hanbo, the youngest member to debut for the Chinese team, beat out all the others and won 5 gold medals in 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 200m medley, 4x50m freestyle relay, 4x50m medley relay, during the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships held in Australia last year.

Aged 10 then, it was also his first trip travling overseas without parents so far away.

Like mother, like son. Hangbo's passion for swimming was discovered and grew as he followed in the footsteps of his mother, who is now a professional coach.

Swimming is fun, but training itself is often arduous and boring while 3 hours of training after class for a boy at such a young age is even harder. Whereas it is a daily routine that Hangbo has been following for 6 years: schooling, training, homework, then time for sleep. “My first gold medal, which came only half a year after my professional training, really boosted my confidence.”

Hangbo says that he dreams to win gold medals in international-scale competitions.
