The 2025 National Low-Carbon Day main event recently opened in Hangzhou's Future Sci-Tech City under the theme "Pioneers on the Carbon Road, Powering a Greener Future".

The event unveiled key reports, including the 2025 Product Carbon Footprint Progress Report and 2024 China Climate Adaptation Progress Report, and announced outstanding low-carbon case studies.

Hangzhou, a national low-carbon pilot city, showcased its achievements — cutting energy consumption per GDP unit to 0.25 metric tons of standard coal and boosting its digital economy's share of GDP to 27.1 percent. Local innovations include AI-powered environmental assessments, carbon-labeled products like West Lake Longjing tea, and a thriving green industry ecosystem.

Student groups also play a key role, with a citywide alliance of 22 university environmental clubs promoting hands-on sustainability through science outreach and green tech competitions.

The event also kicked off a yearlong climate awareness campaign, which his set to highlight Chinese low-carbon efforts at global platforms including COP30.
