The favorable ecological environment of the West Lake is the reason why Fulica atra chooses to stay here.”

In recent years, the remarkable results have been made in the eco-environment improvement of Hangzhou West Lake. Anas poecilorhyncha, Gallinula chloropus, Egretta garzetta, Nycticorax nycticorax, Alcedo atthis and other birds are not uncommon in the West Lake. In addition, some national protected animals including Mergus squamatus also appear frequently.
