A few days ago, the West Lake Waters Management Office said: “Fulica atra is discovered for the first time to breed in Hangzhou West Lake, which is surprising.”
The staff said: “Fulica atra only winters in the West Lake every year, and then leaves the West Lake. However, this year, it is unexpectedly discovered that Fulica atra takes four nestlings to forage in the West Lake. The favorable ecological environment of the West Lake is the reason why Fulica atra chooses to stay here.”
In recent years, the remarkable results have been made in the eco-environment improvement of Hangzhou West Lake. Anas poecilorhyncha, Gallinula chloropus, Egretta garzetta, Nycticorax nycticorax, Alcedo atthis and other birds are not uncommon in the West Lake. In addition, some national protected animals including Mergus squamatus also appear frequently.
