Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC) gave away the Spring Festival couplets and Chinese Character “Fu” written by calligraphers on the site to ring in the Spring Festival together with citizens whose faces were radiant with smiles on January 17.
As Chinese traditional culture, writing and pasting the Spring Festival couplets have been one of the folk custom activities to celebrate the Lunar New Year. As the Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou this year, the calligraphers combine the blessing for the Spring Festival with the blessing for the Asian Games.
The Spring Festival couplets show that, “scrubbing the residual distress of the Year of the Tiger, the West Lake greets guests near and afar; welcoming Asian Games in the Year of the Rabbit, Qiantang River embraces surging waves high and low”. This indicates the wish of scrubbing the distress brought by the pandemic in the past three years, acclaims the fine views of the West Lake and Qiantang River, and expresses the blessing for the upcoming sports gala.
Thin paper carries strong feelings. Giving away the Spring festival couplets enables the public to have a close contact with Chinese traditional culture and make more people to know about, participate in and extend the best wishes for the Asian Games.
