The opening ceremony of 2022 Silk Road Week was held at the China National Silk Museum on July 8, launching the Annual Report of Cultural Heritage on the Silk Roads 2021.
An exhibition, "Silk and the Silk Roads: from Hangzhou to Samarkand", was opened as well, in collaboration with the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve of Uzbekistan.
Shahbaz Khan, director of UNESCO Beijing and Representative to China, talked about his understanding about the Silk Road.
"The Silk Road is very important over centuries, it carries not only silks but also knowledge and cultures, " said Khan.
As an important legacy as well as an up-to-date initiative, the Silk Road is an invaluable world heritage to be celebrated for reminding the world of the importance of cultural diversity and cross-cultural communication, he said.
"Like here we see a special wedding. People were wearing silk products at that time. During centuries, people from different countries have worked together through the Silk Road to exchange ideas and cultures, creating peace and sustainable development," said Khan.
