The Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City, unearthed in 1936, are considered an essential record of the early urban civilization when rice planting was a pillar of economy. The site is known for its abundance of ceremonial jade pieces used in a complicated ritual system.

On July 6, 2019, it was included onto the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Liangzhu relic is a proof of the 5,000 years of Chinese civilization. Liangzhu Day, which lies on July 6 every year, is held in commemoration of the archaeological ruins as one of the three world cultural heritage sites in Hangzhou. Celebrations last for an entire week.

On the list of the "Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries in Zhejiang in the New Era" unveiled by Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology in 2022, two archaeological discoveries related to Liangzhu Culture have been inscribed: the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City and the city's peri-urban large water conservancy project. The latter, known as Laohuling Site, the earliest large-scale water conservancy system in China and the earliest flood control dam project in the world, is open for the first time to the public on this year's Liangzhu Day.

In the archaeology experience area, intangible cultural heritage artisans are invited to demonstrate and teach children how to make traditional Liangzhu handicrafts, such as pottery, jade, lacquer wares, and bamboo sticks. They will be on site from July 6 to 12.

The third episode of the cultural promo film series Hangzhou's Three World Cultural Heritage Sites in Foreigners' Eyes –The Light of Civilization at Liangzhu was released on July 6 to explore the charm of Liangzhu from the perspective of two foreigners: Merveille from D.R. Congo and Yasmina from Morocco. (Scan the QR code to watch the cultural promo film series)
