Immediate treatment is the best solution for patients with sudden cardiac arrest. Since the official implementation of Measures of Hangzhou for Management of Automatic External Defibrillators in Public Areas, the first local legislation about AEDs in China, on January 1, 2021, Hangzhou has witnessed steady increase of AED quantity, AED awareness rate, usage rate, and pre-hospital CPR success rate, with more than 3,900 AEDs provided in public areas.

At present, the number of AEDs per 100,000 people in Hangzhou is less than 5 units, which is far less than 700 AEDs per 100,000 people in developed countries. More efforts shall be put to promote the people’s awareness and knowledge of first aid.
