The US green design and lifestyle website "Inhabitat" recently introduced to the world the designs by Aedas for the Hangzhou Riverfront Digital Industrial Park. This project won the international competition for the design of this riverside retail center, which is expected to be completed by 2024.
The retail center is located in Hangzhou Qianjiang Century City with convenient traffic: people can reach it by metro or by car. The 90,000 ㎡ floor area will be divided into 12 scattered clusters near the river. Tourists can not only enjoy shopping on the riverbank but also the beautiful view of the river.
The project consists of three major functional areas, including a cultural area near the Qiantang River, which includes theaters, art galleries, bookstores, and other businesses to create an iconic urban cultural destination. A family area is in the center, bringing together parent-child entertainment, fine catering, luxury stores and clothing stores to create a destination for all ages. The music area will include a live house, some music bars and many other stores to build a fashion trend center in the CBD.
Moreover, the design of the business district is influenced by the character of the river and its ripples. The use of the double skin, textured facade and sustainable titanium roof create the effect of tides. Overall, the project's architecture blurs the lines between the constructed and natural scenes, which will create a new shopping environment and recreation.
Another building in Hangzhou, Haida Parking Building by UAD was selected as an entry in the Transport category of the 2022 World Architecture News Awards, the largest of the kind.
The project features a floating form, open and rhythmic facades, as well a linear lighting arrangement. Ecological plants are introduced, revealing automobile industrial aesthetics with enhanced visual identity. The folding boards and spiral ramps make the parking circulation route simple and accessible.
Based on the design concept of "parking +", a series of well-equipped commercial facilities and open spaces are arranged on the ground floor.
Haida Parking Building has been open to the public since last year, attracting lots of customers, especially families and students in nearby universities to shop, dine, and unwind.
