Before retirement, Jin Deyi was like any common worker in Hangzhou, capital city of East China's Zhejiang province. After retiring from his job, Jin became a volunteer in vertical greening.
In the past 25 years, he has been sending out more than 100,000 vine seedlings for free, with total plantation area of 200,000 sq meters.
Jin's idea of planting vertical greening was not accepted by some organizations and communities at the first time. He did not give up and decided to work out some samples.
With his efforts, he brought vertical greening to communities, schools and overpasses.
He has developed a 200-meter-long corridor with Chinese trumpet creeper. And built green parking lots with both increased parking spaces and greens.
Influenced by Jin's dedication, an increasing number of local residents started to pay attention to and participate in this green act. They give Jin a nickname called General Vine.
For him, doing this voluntary work is neither for money nor for reputation.
"I'm happy and satisfied that I can still make contribution to the society," he said.
