China’s high-speed maglev transportation system at a speed of 600 km/h came off the production line yesterday. Shanghai-Hangzhou super maglev program, with a total investment of about 100 billion yuan, is part of Zhejiang’s “Ten 100 Billion” project, aiming to build a high-speed maglev transportation system at a speed of 600 km/h, which will shorten the distance between Hangzhou and Shanghai to a mere 20-minute trip. That will save about 25 minutes compared to current fastest high-speed train. Hangzhou will become a “city on rail” in 2035.
