The event even became a trending topic on Weibo. It turns out that so-called “sugar-free” beverages are not really sugar free. Most companies use sweetening agents or sugar substitutes instead of sucrose, white granulated sugar, and other types of sugar. For example, Coke Zero uses aspartame and Yuan Qi Sen Lin uses erythritol. Stevioside and sucralose are other common choices. This doesn’t mean drinking sugar-free beverages won’t cause any problem to human body.
