A man in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, surnamed Xie, has been detained on an accusation of disturbing social order by creating fake health status applications and making them available for download on smartphones, a statement from the Hangzhou city government said on Wednesday.
Xie, 41, developed and uploaded the application in April and May last year, the statement said. The the case has been under investigation.
The fake applications could show false health status codes, regions and names based on a user's choices instead of reality. That could be misleading, a report from technology portal IT home said.
