The Red Cross Charity Alliance in Wangjiang Sub-district was recently established in Hangzhou's Shangcheng District with ten members.
The member units donated 400,000 yuan to the organization to purchase automated external defibrillators(AEDs). The devices will be all installed at all residential communities, schools, markets, and medical & health institutions before the Spring Festival, making Wangjiang the first subdistrict to realize the AEDs full coverage in Hangzhou.
A total of 23 AEDs are expected to be put into operation in the area. 31 emergency care stops have also been set up.
While automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are still unfamiliar to many Chinese ears, the fast dissemination of such life-saving devices in China's major cities is already making a life-and-death difference.
Hangzhou became the first Chinese city to legislate on the dissemination of AEDs. According to a regulation promulgated in last November, apart from airports and metro stations, AEDs must also be provided in law enforcement vehicles and ships to ensure their "mobility" in the city.
