Pakistan to send 192 athletes to Hangzhou Asian Games

Lahore, Pakistan, September 3, 2023: Pakistan will field a 192-strong squad of athletes and take part in 24 sports disciplines at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

The Pakistan Olympic Association, who unveiled the squad and sports which will compete at the Asian Games from September 23 to October 8, also held a two-day seminar for all athletes and coaches participating in Hangzhou this weekend.

The 24 sports disciplines are: archery, athletics, bridge, badminton, boxing, cricket, sport climbing, fencing, golf, hockey, kabaddi, karate, rowing, sailing, shooting, squash, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.

Meanwhile, nearly 200 athletes and coaches participated online and physically in the seminar held by the NOC to impart information on key topics, including doping controls, nutrition, competition manipulation, protection from harassment and abuse in sport.

NOC Secretary General Muhammad Khalid Mahmood reminded athletes and coaches that they were ambassadors for the country and to conduct themselves in an exemplary manner.

The seminar provided a platform for participants to engage with the experts and gain a deeper understanding of the critical issues that will play a pivotal role in their preparation for the Asian Games. It also facilitated networking and knowledge-sharing between athletes and officials.

Pakistan won four bronze medals at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang. Among the country's medal hopes this time is Arshad Nadeem who last week won a silver medal in the men's javelin at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
