On July 25, at the 100m backstroke finals of Fukuoka Swimming Championships, Xu Jiayu from Zhejiang, China, finished fourth with the score of 52.64s, just 0.06s behind the third place.

Xu Jiayu appeared at the international competition again after one-year hiatus. Although he did not win a medal, his results were gratifying. At the world championships, from preliminaries to semi-finals, his results were less than 53s. He ranked the first at preliminaries, and took the second place at semi-finals. At the National Swimming Championships in May, with the score of 52.26s, he broke two world championships records previously set by him.

After the game, Xu Jiayu said that he would spare no effort to prepare for Hangzhou Asian Games and compete for gold medals.
