On June 10, the China Athletics Street Tour made its debut in Hangzhou, the fourth leg of this year. The event featured a pole vault competition to welcome the upcoming Asian Games.
The competition included both men's and women's pole vault events, with 17 top domestic athletes participating, including Asian record holder Li Ling, Asian Championships champion Chen Qiaoling, National Games champion Yao Jie, Asian champion Huang Bokai, and street competition record holder Ding Bangchao.
The street competition took place at Hangzhou City Balcony, against the backdrop of the "sun-moon" architectural landscape formed by the Hangzhou Grand Theatre and the Hangzhou International Conference Centre. Located by the Qiantang River and faced with the main venue of the Hangzhou Asian Games, the "Big Lotus", the landmark buildings which represent the fresh look of Hangzhou were showcased to sports enthusiasts across the country.
Local athlete Chen Qiaoling from Zhejiang won the women's competition. This was the third consecutive year of her participation in the China Athletics Street Tour. She said that the street tour is very helpful for the development of pole vaulting. Currently, she is making full efforts in preparing for the Asian Games qualifiers at the end of this month.
The street tour, organised by the Chinese Athletics Association, was founded in 2015 to allow the public to enjoy athletics in the streets.
On the day of the competition, in addition to a limited number of spectators inside the venue, over ten thousand people watched the games from outside. As the 100-day countdown to the Hangzhou Asian Games approaches, the successful hosting of this event has enhanced the Asian Games atmosphere in Hangzhou.
