Citizens are active in contributing suggestions for the upcoming Asian Games to be staged at their own city. Though they have different ideas and suggestions for the event, they have a common goal that is to avail the grand event to display Hangzhou culture.
The suggestion of "using sweet-scented osmanthus (the laurel flowers) as the awarding bouquet for the Asian Games" by Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Cultural Relics won the first prize in "My Suggestion for Asian Games", an activity for Asian Games. For one thing, sweet-scented osmanthus is the city flower of Hangzhou and the event will be held in autumn when the sweet-scented osmanthus is in full bloom. Using laurel bouquet or laurel wreath in the awarding ceremony will highlight Hangzhou's distinctive features. For another, laurel has been closely related to the champion in Chinese traditional culture. In the ancient times, laurel represented congratulations for winners, and implied the sportsmanship of self challenging, self transcending and going for the laurel crown.
The brilliant ideas contributed by other winners are also novel and original. For example, Lu Wenli, a poet, suggested printing the poems of Asian countries on the Asian Games gifts. Yang Xin hoped to make young Asian people participate in the event through AI and Flash Mob. Guo Qiang, an overseas Chinese, suggested inviting the builders of the Asian Games venues and professional athletes to participate in friendly games. Oliya from Ukraine advised foreigners living and travelling in Hangzhou to provide tour guide services for foreign tourists.
