Now the florescence of lotus flowers is to end soon in the West Lake. However, another blossom will take its place. Water Lilies(Nymphaeaceae) are now blooming in the West Lake. They live as rhizomatous aquatic herbs in temperate and tropical climates around the world. The family contains five genera with about 70 known species. Water lilies are rooted in soil in bodies of water, with leaves and flowers floating on or emergent from the surface. The leaves are round, with a radial notch in Nymphaea and Nuphar, but fully circular in Victoria and Euryale. More than 50 new species of water lilies are introduced to the ‘Three pools mirroring the moon’ Island this year, including species that won the 2018 New Waterlily Competition held by International Waterlily & Water Gardening Society. |
