Hangzhou takes lead in judicial governance of cyberspace

Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province is at the forefront of cyberspace judicial governance, said Si Jinjin, head of the Hangzhou Intermediate People's Court at a conference on Jan 22.

The Hangzhou Internet Court, established in August 2017, is the country's first court specializing in internet-related disputes.

It has settled 15,456 internet-related lawsuits and concluded 13,604 since its inauguration. The average duration of a trial is about 25 percent shorter than conventional courts.

Behind the impressive achievement is the court's continuous efforts in reform and innovation, which has accelerated the judicial process and made it easier for the public to obtain judicial assistance.

Innovations such as electronic evidence, blockchain technology, and a data center for internet-related cases are used by the court to settle the disputes and build a community of a shared future in cyberspace security.

It also allows judges, plaintiffs and defendants to log into the online platform in their chosen time and complete the trial.

In October 2018, a research institute on internet-related disputes was established, aiming to serve as an academic platform to increase cooperation and communication on how to solve internet cases among courts, internet enterprises, colleges and internet administrations.
