Fuyang district, an industrial center renowned for paper-making and metallurgical industries in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, is eyeing to boost the development of its high-tech industries, according to a conference held in Hangzhou, on Jan 9.

As the district has accelerated its integration with the urban area of Hangzhou, Fuyang has continuously phased out backward production facilities over the years since those highly polluting and energy-reliant enterprises were no longer suitable for urban development.

A total of 415 high-pollution and high-energy enterprises were eliminated with 2.7 million tons of papermaking capacity, a report revealed at the conference.

Meanwhile, a number of high-tech companies in the emerging industries including aviation and medical sectors have sprung up in the district.

Looking to the future, the district aims to build a high-tech manufacturing industry cluster with eight leading industries, including optical communication, electromechanical transportation equipment, medical health, the internet of things, energy conservation materials, e-commerce internet, intelligent equipment, and cultural and sports industries.

A bunch of creative industries will also be highlighted with the focus on artificial intelligence, additive manufacturing, big data and cloud computing, software services, magnetic levitation, integrated circuits, photoelectric lasers, and the digital creative industry.

Other than that, the report also indicated the importance of high-level city construction and social governance, in a bid to attract more talents and enterprises, as well as improving people's wellbeing and making the city a better place to live for its residents.
