Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province unveiled a blueprint on the development of the city's aerospace information technology at an industry conference held on Nov 16.

The new guideline, focusing on the construction of Hangzhou's digital economy, stipulates that the technology will be mainly applied in four areas in the city, including security, transport systems, intelligent traffic management and eco-environment management.

It also indicated that intelligent hardware for satellite navigation, internet of vehicles, internet of things and production for space facilities are set to be key industries in Hangzhou.

As a global emerging industry, aerospace information technology provides users with real-time space-based information and multimedia communication services by integrating aerospace technologies such as satellite remote sensing, satellite navigation, satellite communications and drones.

Though Hangzhou doesn't boast starting advantages in aerospace information, isn't blessed with a prestigious satellite location nor is headquartered with national-level aerospace research institutes, the city's leading position in information industry, as evidenced by Alibaba's City Brain system, has seen it become a hub for the aerospace information industry.

Speaking at the conference, Wang Jian, founder of Alibaba Cloud, believed that the potential of the aerospace information industry is unbounded as it will penetrate into every aspect of our lives in the near future.

"I believe that Hangzhou's aerospace information technology will be increasingly honed to support the city's digital economy," said Wang Dawei from a research institute.

Over the years, the Cloud Town has stepped up efforts in cultivating and attracting aerospace information enterprises through an array of preferential policies for talents, said a local official.

To date, over 20 leading companies and research institutes in aerospace information industry have settled in the town.
