From 9-12 January,2014, ‘Handmade in Hangzhou’ exhibition will be held in Carrousel, Le Louvre. It is organized by Hangzhou Information office and Hangzhou People’s association for friendship with foreign countries, and is one integral part of the special event celebrating the 50th year of the establishment of China-France relationship,‘Vista of China’

The exhibition will mainly display 15 fabulous design work and leaves composed by 3000 bamboo paper made by 13 famous Chinese and foreign designers. What is interesting is that these masterpieces are all made from bamboo----the most old and typical product of Hangzhou, yet are fused with a brand new design philosophy.

As Zhang lei, one of the curator and designer said, fusion is the key element throughout this whole marvelous work. Fusion, in Chinese ‘融’,means intertwined smoke in ancient Chinese culture. “Our works are fusion of east and west, old and new, traditional handcraft and advanced technology. “ He said.

“50 years ago there were 50 thousand Hangzhou oil-paper umbrellas being produced every year by traditional craftsmen, however now the amount reduced to 100 or even less. So we try to save it as well as the traditional culture.” Zhang said.

“I believe this exhibition gives the chance for crafts to survive by bringing up new things.” Another German artist said.
